Somat Engineering, Inc. (Somat) is a privately owned consulting engineering firm established in 1986 and specializing in infrastructure engineering solutions vital to urban and rural communities and their quality of life. Somat delivers innovative, timely and cost-effective solutions and is headquartered in Detroit, Michigan, with offices throughout Michigan, Ohio and Washington, DC. Somat provides a diverse portfolio of comprehensive Geotechnical and Construction Engineering consulting services as well as Civil, Structural, and Environmental services that support our core disciplines. We specialize in providing engineering studies and design/construction recommendations for pavements, bridges, utilities, including underground engineering/design for tunnels, shafts, and other structures, as well as groundwater evaluations, and laboratory/in-situ testing for construction materials, soil and rock. Our services also include design of earth retention systems, and comprehensive geotechnical instrumentation programs for vertical and horizontal ground movements.

Our experience in the iconic metropolitan cities of Detroit, Michigan and Cleveland, Ohio, both of which have “built environment” infrastructure systems, has allowed us the unique opportunity of working within the regional civil engineering communities to repair and rehabilitate century old infrastructure systems for water and sewerage; update the surface transportation systems; and renovate/restore iconic historical structures.

Somat recognizes that complex projects demand experienced and qualified personnel. Our professionals possess expertise in the planning, design, and construction administration of small to large-scale infrastructure systems, transportation systems, built facilities, water resources management systems for federal, state and local governments and private sector clients. This expertise allows Somat to provide our clients with quality, reliable recommendations relative to transportation and infrastructure projects.
