2017 Pioneer Award Honoree:







Tony Kratofil, PE,

Region Engineer, MDOT Metro Region

COMTO Michigan honored their 2017 "Pioneer in Transportation", Mr. Tony Kratofil, PE., on June 28, 2017 at the Great Lakes Culinary Center in Southfield, MI.  See the news release regarding the 2017 Pioneer Awards Dinner for more details.



Tony Kratofil is the Region Engineer for the Michigan Department of Transportation’s Metro Region.  In this role since April, 2009, he administers the Department’s transportation planning, design, construction, maintenance and traffic operations of the three county region in Southeast Michigan centered on metropolitan Detroit, including the Southeast Michigan Traffic Operations Center and coordination with the Blue Water Bridge.  Mr. Kratofil has been with MDOT for 25 years. 


He has been a driving force behind many innovative approaches to increase diversity and inclusion, including utilization of Best Value/Performance Based contracting; development of the MDOT Small Business Programs; bringing the USDOT Bonding Education Program to Michigan; advancement of the proposed On-the-Job Training Voluntary Incentive Program; and creation of the I-94 Modernization Project’s Small Business Program initiatives.  Mr. Kratofil has also been the recipient of numerous honors and awards throughout his career, and COMTO Michigan is proud to add to the list with the Pioneer in Transportation Award.
